7th grade: WOTV Rect and Reg

This week's Words on the Vine is Rect and Reg. An online study guide can be found here. Last week I told the students to hang on to their weekly notes for the semester. Their WOTV final will have words from the whole semester. If they lose a set of notes, they can always come back to this blog.

7th Literary Devices

Yesterday the 7th graders began a short unit of study on literary device terms. These terms should be a review since they were covered in the 6th grade. Yesterday we took notes through a Keynote.

8th Grade- "Flowers for Algernon"

This week the 8th graders are beginning to read Flowers for Algernon from their literature books. On Friday they will have a quiz on the reading from the week and the concepts of first-person point of view, static characters, and dynamic characters. Moreover, today they received homework that is due Friday.

7th grade: Words on the Vine- Cor

This week's root is cor, which means "heart".  The Keynote with the vocabulary can be found at this link. At Quizlet.com, you can find online flashcards that others have already made for Words on the Vine (WOTV). You can find one for this week's words here.
Tomorrow I will check that they made their three column notes for the words (word, definition, picture) and to see that page 1 of this week's WOTV has been completed.

Welcome!

Dear Hoover Family,

Welcome to the 2nd semester! I will be using this blog to log what we have been doing in class. I will also be listing homework and upcoming tests. Last week 7th and 8th graders took a STAR reading test and the 7th graders wrote their Persuasive Writing WPA. Next week the 7th graders will be getting back to Words on the Vine (homework and test on Friday due to short week) and starting to ready a Ray Bradbury story called "The Veldt". 8th graders will begin to read "Flowers for Algernon". This blog will be updated about once per week. Check in on Tuesdays for updates.

Thank you for being excellent supporters of your child's education!
